Film poster analysis 2.

This is a poster to advertise a new film called 'Lord Of War' which is an action film we can see this by the image been the main actors face made out of shells and bullets. This works effectively because we can still make out the face of a well famous actor 'Nicolas Cage' by having this actor in the poster suggests to the audience that its going to be a puzzle style film by all the other films he has been in with action. The image is very clever because not only it been the actors face but also about the movie with it been made up of bullets and shells. This poster works well as a whole because it is effective with the construction and that makes it professional and convincing. There are different types of fonts on the poster, even in the film title 'Lord War' are one separate text to 'Of' this works really well together because they are both the same font just different colours and sizes. however the 'Of' is the same as all the other texts like the actors name which is a well recognised actor from good films such as 'National Treasure' and 'Ghost Rider'. There is also a quote underneath the film title which says 'Where There's A Will There's A Weapon' which also suggests to the audience that this film will have crime and drama as the set genre. We can see that the target audience would be males possible females aged 15-45, we can tell this by the main image and the slogan underneath the film title, also the text that is used.

Film poster analysis.

This poster to advertise the new film 'The End Of The Affair' is a romantic film genre, we can see this by the way that the focal point is in the couple down at the bottom, and that they are sharing an umbrella in the rain. Also how the couple are the only image in focus, everything else is blurred in the background. With the poster been in black and white suggests that this could be advertising a sad romantic film, we can also suggest this by the fact that its raining, I think that this works really well in advertising the film. The title of the film is placed int he middle but at the left hand side, the font of the text works really well with the background and the images on the poster, the text is plain and simple, which works effectively to address the target audience. 'The End Of The Affair' makes and interesting title to suggest that the movie is about romance however also sadness, with goes alongside the rain and the dull colours on the poster. With the quote underneath the title 'The End Is Just The Beginning' Suggests the total opposite of the main title that there will be happiness in the move, but not for everyone. By looking at this poster we can see that the set target audience would be females aged 15-45, we can see this by the image in the left hand corner that the couple are in the rain holding one umbrella which means they are stood really close, the suggests the romance of the movie. With advertising the director says that this is a good effective movie because 'Neil Jordan' has worked on many successful films, and advertising actors and actress's on the poster, that the audience will recognise draws the audience in and makes them want to see the film. The font's on this poster are all different sizes like the main title is the largest text on the poster, and is also in a different colour and font to the rest of the text on the poster, so that the audience can recognise the name of the movie. All the other texts are in a smaller font and different style but all the same colour because they are all advertising names of the director and the actors and actress's. However there is one text that is different to them all which is the quote underneath the title which is the same colour as the others but is in italics, this adds to the effect on the poster. The poster is very cleverly designed in the way that is not to cluttered and works really well and effectively.

Magazine Title Fonts.

For the title of my magazine i chose the name 'Film 24'. I chose this name because i am doing a film trailer so the word film fits really well and fits the genre of the magazine. I chose '24' to go along side because it represnts that the magazine is about films all day everyday.

This type of font is called 'Bummer Font.' I liked the style of this font because the style of font works really well. I like the way that its bold and all in capitals it gives it a simple but effective style to it.

This type of font is called 'Birth of a hero font.' I really liked this font because of the way that parts of the lettering is missing, this creates a mystry effect to the lettering.

This type of font is called 'Bionic Comic Font.' This font is really good becuase it creates a Sci-fi style look to the lettering. I would of seclected this font more if i was making a a Sci-fi style movie trailer.

This font is called 'Armor Piercing Font' this font is one of my faviorites because of the way it looks. This font looks profesional because it is plain and simple, however with this bold and letter styling gives it a rather stylish look.

This font is called 'Action man font' I liked this piticular font because it was rather plain but stood out. Also it has a proffesional look about it which would work really well for my magazine.

This font is called 'Alien Leauge Font' I piticularly like this font because, it also has a profesional look to it. But i think this one will work best on my magazine cover with the other aspects of the magazine. As this is my chosen font.

Magazine drafts.

I did these on publisher so i could get a good idea of were i wanted things to be on my magazine cover. I did a veriation of them so that i could experement with different styles and places to put them.

The genre of this magazine is all film genre's, there are similar magazines to this one like 'Total Film'. This magazine extends to other types of Media by having their own website. The film genres that are represented in this particular magazine are all for example, Comedy, Action, Action-thriller, horror, Romantic comedy and Sci-Fi. The stylistic features that represent these genres are, the masthead, images used on the cover and the text on the cover of the magazine. The content that is found is this magazine is typical to the genres because it is all about the new films out and they can be any of these genres. The media language used on this magazine cover, is the same as any other with the font's, images and text placed around the cover. But are slightly different by the colours and the styles used. For example the font's are all different sizes, the masthead is large, bold and red to draw the audience's attention to the magazine. The 'sub heading' is also large font and bold but not as large as the 'Main heading' this text is white, which works really well with background colour the text is placed on because the audience can acknowledge it and see that this is the main feature of the magazine. There are other texts placed on the magazine cover these are there to show the reader what is inside the magazine. These are always small font's and are usually placed in the bottom right or left hand corners, so the reader can glance at them and want to purcase the magazine. The images used on the magazine are mainly recognised characters form movies like 'Iron Man, Robin Hood and Prince of Persia' They are used to catch the target audience which by the content of the magazine cover would be males aged 15-35. There are other aspects that suggest that this is the target audience, by the colours used that they are white plain and simple. The layout of the magazine is constructed well because it is not cluttred and the image is the focal point of the cover and also one of the main aspects of the magazine.

Also the Main text 'Sub heading' to advertise the main aspect of the magazine, is also large sized font and bold, bright coloured to let the audience know that this is the new film out that critics have commented on. There is some smaller text in the bottom left and right hand corner s used to advertise what is inside the magazine, this is always smaller than the other text so that the audience can see whats inside and makes them interested i buying the magazine so that they can find out more about the inside content. The photos on the cover are mainly of male stars from recent films, however the main image is of a women, these images are used because they are common actors/actress which we recognise and therefore make us interested in buying the magazine. The colours used for the text are neutral colours mainly using black and white which suggests that the magazine is aimed towards both male and female. By the fact that the colours are nutral and appeling to both female and male, and the actors/actress placed on the cover and the films been advertised on the cover suggests that this magazine's target audience is male and females aged 15-35.

The magazine cover is constrected together well, it is not to cluttered however there is enough information placed on the cover to make the target audience intereseted in buying the magazine. There are well recognised actors on the cover of the magazine with captions placed under their photos to make the audience intrested in buying the magazine, by suggesting that film critics ahve watched these new films and given their verdidict.

Storyboard

Shooting Schedule and Script.

Shooting schedule.

Because out trailer is mainly set in the woodland are, we are relaying on nice weather and sun so we can film outside. The filming could run over for about 3-4 days depending on what the out come of our footage was, so the weather would need to be dry for a few day's. We would try and get all the outside filming done, as the weather will not be that great around the months we are filming October/November. We also kept away days aside just in case we needed to re shoot something. The other location was the bedroom, so this one done on many occasions as it didn't matter about the outside weather.

Shooting script.

As we are producing a horror trailer not a lot of speaking will be involved, although the speech that is included is for the audience's knowledge to understand whats going on.

Establishing shot: of Ellie on Monday as she is making her way home from college revision lessons. Her mum calls to see where she is, and if she is on her way home.

Establishing shot: of Ellie on Wednesday to let the audience know her whereabouts and that's she takes this shortcut home all the time.

Medium shot: of Ellie in the bedroom, showing her franticness.

Close up shot: of Ellie as she becomes face to face with her 'Stalker'

Cast List

The original cast list;

Jodie Braithwaite. Jodie would have played the outgoing character in the group of friends. She would have been the leader out of the group, the one who make all the decisions.

Lizzie Morgan. Would have been the 'geeky' quiet friend in the group, but makes good points when needed.

Kaylee Murphy. Would have been the loyal friend, the one who always plays it safe, and looks out for everyone else.

Holly Robinson. Would have played the stereotypical 'Dube Blonde' in the friendship, this would have worked really well, as Holly already has blonde hair.

Elisha Stewart and Hannah Mason would have been used to make up extra members in the group, they would have really been used in the trailer as much as the others, only they would be in the group shots, as it would of made up the group. Also would have made the audience watching the trailer wonder what happens to them in the film.

The 'Stalker' would not be seen on the trailer, as this would give away too much, and after all I am making a teaser trailer. The 'Stalker' would be created by piont of view shots, in various different ways.

But after we had come up with the original castlist and script, we had to change everything around because, poeple couldn't be in the trailer, due to their exams and things. So we came up with idea of using Holly Robinson as a character called Ellie, she would be played as a sterotypical blonde.

Synopsis.

The title of the film trailer will be called 'The Hunted' which relates to the plot with their been a 'Stalker'. I researched the title of my film trailer by going on the International Movie Data Base 'IMDB' i found that there are no other horror films under that title.

With the original cast, the trailer was going to feature the group celebrating their A level results and going to spend the night in the forest with a few drinks. But little do they know they aren't the only ones there somebody else is watching them. They would have each been killed of one by one, this idea became difficult to per sue because of the other members of the cast not been able to get them all together at the same time.

We then changed the idea of our trailer the title still remained the same. But the stalker would now only be following one character (Holly Robinson). The character will be called Ellie been the stereotypical blonde, which will make her very venerable. Ellie will be walking home form late revision classes through a forest on her own, with her hearing various noises, and different views of the stalker. Ellie will be watched a few nights walking home so the audience can see that the 'Stalker' has been watching her from some time. One night during walking home, her mum calls to say that she is going away for he weekend, but as Ellie has started to hear these strange noises following her, she tries to persuade her mum to stay at home. We see Ellie's feet walking and then we see the 'Stalkers' feet following the same path Ellie took. As Ellie is at home she hears something downstairs, panicking she rings her mum as she is on the phone the trailer ends with her scared reaction and dropping the phone.

Mirrors movie trailer

Mirrors Analysis.

In the first opening shot, we get an introduction to the main character that is a typical convention of any movie trailer, but as the trailer progress's we get the next shot which is of an isolated house, which is a typical convention of a horror film. Also we can tell by looking at the house and the surrounding area that these are all codes and conventions of horror films, by the house been isolated, run down, and a no access area. As the trailer moves on we get to see and inside to what the movie is going to be about, with the straight black cuts, eary sounds and screams. Also the editing cuts to the beat of eary sound effects and music, which is a typical code of horror films. Also we get really loud sounds during cuts, to show that these things are important parts of the trailer, to give us an inside to what the movie is about. Talking over the shots, of what the characters are trying to find out, but as the audience we can see what the answers are. Towards the end of the trailer we get faced cut pace shots to show the characters reactions, and emotions, we also hear screams over the shots, talking and cry which makes us as the audience want to go see the movie, and find out what happens to the characters and if there is any solution to the film. With the characters talking over the shots we can get the story line of whats trying to be found out, and whats happening, as this is happening we are seeing the shots and screen which are making us as the audience want to go see the movie. This trailer shows the codes and conventions of a horror trailer really well, with the isolated house been in a no access area, the fact that there is loud eary music over the shots, we hear screams, and scared voices, also by having close ups of the characters faces to show their reactions and emotions.

Sorority Row Trailer.

Sorority Row Analysis.

At first in this trailer we see, straight cut shots of the main location setting. then we see straight cut close up shots of the main characters, these are there so the aundience see actors they recognise from other films and think they were really good and want too watch more. We then get mid shots of each of the character so we can see a little bit about them. we then see the location and have stragiht cuts as we are watchin to find out what the stroy is about. we then have an establishing shot of the loaction, which is a deserted mine shaft, its dark and cold which is a typical convention of a horror movie. Through out the trailer we have fast cut pace and cut's to the beat of the music, this is there to show different parts of the film and keep the audience interested and make us want to go see the film. Also having the really fast cut pace editing in a horror at the end of the trailer puts the audience on the each of the seat, and creates adreniline so they want too watch the actual film. In this trailer we have typical conventions of horror films, by having isolated dark cold settings. and by having close ups of the actors face's been shocked and scared. plus the music and the editing corrospond with eacth other to make the trailer more intrseting and fit the genre correctlly, by having the editing cutting to the beat of the music, also when the music gets quiter and we hear a scream the editing is so quick and fast we see a close up of one of the actors faces. there is also the child like voices singing over the trailer which creates a creepy atmopsphere for the audience.

Film Trailer History

The first trailer shown in a U.S. movie theater was in November 1913, when Nils Granlund, the advertising manager for the Marcus Loew theater chain, produced a short promotional film for the musical The Pleasure Seekers, opening at the winter garden theater on Broadway. Granlund was also first to introduce trailer material for an upcoming motion picture, using a slide technique to promote an upcoming film featuring Charlie Chaplin at Loew's Seventh Avenue Theatre in Harlem in 1914. Up until the late 1950's, trailers were mostly created by National Screen Service and consisted of various key scenes from the film being advertised, often augmented with large descriptive text describing the story, and an underscore generally pulled from studio music libraries. Most trailers had some form of narration and those that did featured stentorian voices. In the early 1960's, the face of motion picture trailers changed. text less, montage trailers and quick-editing became popular, largely due to the arrival of the 'New Hollywood' and techniques that were becoming increasingly popular in television. Stanley Kubrick's main inspiration for the 'Dr. Strangelove' trailer was the short film 'Very nice, very nice' by Canadian film visionary Arthur Lipsdett. in 1964 Andrew J.Kuehn distributed his independently-produced a trailer for 'Night of the Iguana' his format was so successful,he began producing this new form of trailer with partner Dan Davis. Kuehn opened the west coast office of Kaleidoscope Films in 1968 and Kuehn and his company become a major player in the trailer industry for the next three decades. Directors like Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone and Barbra Streisand began to depend on Kuehn and Kaleidoscope for their ability to create the best trailers theater-goers could see. top trailer companies have all been run by former Kaleidoscope creative like the Cimarron Group, Ant Farm, Motor Entertainment. In earlier decades of cinema, trailers were only one part of the entertainment which included cartoon shorts and serial adventure episodes. these earlier trailers were much shorter and often consisted of little more than title cards and stock footage. Today longer more elaborate trailers and commercial advertisements have replaced other forms of pre-feature entertainment and in major multiplex chains, about the first twenty minutes after the posted showtime is devoted to trailers.
